I’m no Angel fan…
I hate the Yankees. And I don’t just mean I like another team so I get mad because the Yankees always beat my team. No. I hate the Yankees, even when I’m not following another team. Even when a team I’m following has fallen off the playoff roster a long time ago. Even when the Yanks are the sole representatives of the AL, which I do still like better than the NL. If the Yankees are in the World Series, I will always root for the NL team. Of course, by the time they are in the Series, I’m already pissed because it means I have to listen to Bob Costas wax (what he thinks is) poetically about legacies and legends and team history and how the whole city backs them and blah blah BLECH! Plus, a Series spot ensures that Joe Torre pretty much gets to pick the All Star team, again.
The only thing I dislike more than the Yankees as a team is Derek Jeter. I detest him with all the venom in me. I can feel my blood pressure rise just thinking about him. And not in a good way. Number three on things I hate is A-Rod, followed closely by Yankees fans.
Lest you think I’m just some Northwestern hick who doesn’t know shit about the house that Ruth built, please understand that I hated the Yankees even when I lived in New York. Even when my co-workers dragged me to the ticker tape parade after they won the Series in 1998. Even though I’ve been to Yankee Stadium twice. Even though Tino Martinez is a nice guy. I won’t even date a guy who likes the Yankees. It’s almost always one of my first-date questions.
So, as much as I don’t love the Angels (except Tim Salmon … well, and a couple of others), I will be glued to my TV tonight cheering as loudly as I can, hoping that they cream the Bronx Bombers. Go Halos!

Oooow! This hurts. They are my favorite team. I just finished watching them lose the series, and am now subject to reading this. You sure know how to kick a guy in the nuts.

So my fave Mariners blog had a small post this morning suggesting how to address Yankee fans the day after.
The title of the post (which I loooove) is, “Mr. Schaden, meet Mr. Freude,” and the suggestion was a social experiment of sorts – “Fun exercise: find a Yankee fan, give them your best innocent smile, and ask sweetly “Hey, I missed the game last night: what happened?”

Here’s one reason I hate the Yankees. From today’s Page Six: “ALEX Rodriguez expects respect for the Yankees, at least when he’s in New York. After the Yankees-Angels rain cancellation Saturday, A-Rod, his wife and friends went to Nobu 57, where he noticed a red Angels baseball hat in the crowd, reports The Post’s Braden Keil. On his way out, A-Rod shouted from across the room, “Hey, lose the hat!” A few patrons cheered. The red-faced, red-capped provocateur was sitting with Donnie Wahlberg, older brother of Mark — both of whom usually root for their hometown team, the hated Boston Red Sox.”
