God’s Country
Because, yes, we still argue about this…I just forwarded a link to GTB to an article about a study some guy did on the places Americans and foreigners most want to live in the U.S. I originally sent it to him because Oregon was in the top five places where Americans would want to live:
North Carolina
Virginia
Florida
Colorado
Oregon
But after I sent him the article, I read further and saw that Washington state was in the top five for foreigners:
California
Florida
Hawaii
New York
Washington state
“Hmmm…” I thought. “That’s kind of strange and kind of awesome at the same time.” I mean, I can understand the top four. They are probably the states foreigners are most familiar with. But Washington, really? Don’t get me wrong, it’s my number one, but it suprised me that people from other countries feel the same way about it.
Then I read this line:
“[The author of the study] notes that Washington’s position could derive from confusion between the state and the District of Columbia.”
Ah, gotcha.
