Not with a bang, but with an insane rant from the Iranian president
A few weeks ago, I attended a lecture by author Simon Winchester. He mostly talked about his latest book, which details the San Francisco fire and earthquake and aftermath of each 100 years ago. Winchester is brilliant and adorable and a great speaker. He’s also a geologist by trade, so there was much talk of plate tectonics and climate shift and that sort of thing. I eat that shit up, so I was rivetted.
Late in the lecture, he told us about how some lake in Yellowstone National Park sits atop a constantly swelling and contracting lava dome. At some point, probably in about 20,000 years, that lava dome will explode and take out most of the western half of the U.S. Then he added, “Which isn’t really a problem for us, since humans will be gone by then anyway.”
After reading this article, I’m inclined to agree.
Iranian president calls Holocaust a ‘myth’ used to create Israel

The Iranian president is f*cking nuts. I hope, for everyone’s sake, that he never gets nukes. I also hope, for all our sakes, that we don’t end up invading Iran. However, I’d be less worried if we weren’t matching religious extremism abroad with our own home-grown blend of ignorance and stupidity. The world really might be going to hell in a handbasket.
How hard is it to immigrate to New Zealand?

Yeah, the Iranian president’s pretty much a worst case scenario. He’s not just someone from the power elite spewing crazy, anti-semetic, uber-religious crap to make the ruling religious establishment happy – he’s a classic true believer from the rank and file.
I may regret saying this, but don’t worry about us invading Iran. It’s just a whole different ballgame. If we do that it’ll be the equivalent of Waterloo and Stalingrad all rolled into one.
New Zealand’s about all the only option left. Australia just fell of the map with the latest round of text message coordinated race-rioting.
Have a great day everybody!

Hooray! There is at least one head of state who is more out of touch with reality than our own. Kinda makes me think living in a log cabin on the prarie with no neighbors might not have been so awful after all.
