After an initial muscle memory refresher, I realized I cradle babies (admittedly, not my own) to the left. Phew.

But then it got me thinking. Could this be due to the fact that most right-handed people cradle to the left, and left-handed people cradle to the right, and maybe left-handed people are more prone to stress and depression? Nope. The study found no correlation between which hand is your prominent one and which way you crade.

So now I’m wondering if new mothers who cradle their babies to the right are more stressed out because they have tied up their right hand (and the majority of them are right-handed, right?) and aren’t able to get as much done when they are holding the baby. Me, when I’m holding a baby (again, not that I have one that’s technically “mine” yet), I shift everything to the left so I’m still free to talk on the phone, grab a snack, pick my nose, etc.

Thoughts?

So there’s this article about how you can tell if a mother is stressed out or prone to depression if she cradles her baby to the right.
