Last night, over happy hour french fries and Cosmos, a co-worker asked me if I would be having a party for my 30th birthday. Actually, she said, “So you’re having a big, fancy party, right?!”<\/p>\n
I’ve dropped a couple of hints (read: begged more than one bartender) at the Tin Hat requesting that they have Fucked Jukebox 8 on my birthday. It’s perfect: my birthday is on a Thursday (their usual FJ night), I’m already planning on taking the Friday after off, and 8 is my lucky number. How cool would that be?!<\/p>\n
But now that I’m thinking about it, I had my birthday party at the Hat last year, along with Joe, with whom I have the good fortune of sharing a birthday. And this is my 30th freakin’ birthday. So now I’m thinking I want something big and girly and special. <\/p>\n
I want to wear a pink party dress and a tiara to the Spanish Ballroom at the Fairmont and have 200 of my closest friends there sipping champagne. And I want them to cheer for me when I enter. I want some great band to serenade me. And I want to be the prettiest girl in the room. What I want, I’ve realized, is a Super Sweet 16. Now I need to enlist the help of someone (Mom, maybe?) to throw me this little shindig.<\/p>\n
I don’t know how realistic it is to try to plan a party like that two months before the big day, especially because it is right after the Holiday season. So I’ve decided I can be flexible on some things. I don’t need it to be at the Fairmont, I guess. And I don’t even know what band I’ll like, and therefore want to be serenaded by, then. So we can cancel that if we need to. But hear this, I will be wearing a pretty pink party dress (something Betsy Johnson-ish) for the celebration. Even if it’s at the Tin Hat. <\/p>\n
UPDATE: Because math has never been my strong suit, it took me all day to realize that if you square 16 and then subtract 2, you get 254, which I will not be turning in January. What I meant to say was 16 DOUBLED, and then minus 2.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
